Criteria for Admission into the O&M Program:

Students applying for admission to the program must have:

  • A baccalaureate degree (in any subject) from an accredited college or university
  • A 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Two letters of reference
  • LiveScan Fingerprinting
  • Have taken the C-BEST exam. This is an exam on basic reading, writing, and math skills (required only for credential applicants). Under some circumstanes, applicants can take this exam during the first semester of enrollment.
  • Test scores from one of the following exams (required only for Master of Arts applicants):
    • CSET Writing Skills Test: passing status score of 220 points
    • GRE Analytical Writing Test or GMAT Analytical Writing Assessment: minimum score of at least 3.5/6.0
    •  Former Graduate Essay Test (GET): minimum score of 5
    • TOEFL paper-based [PBT]: minimum score of at least 4.5/6.0 on the essay test TOEFL Internet-based test [iBT]: minimum score of 24/30 on the Writing section
    • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) writing test: minimum score of at least 6.5/9.0 or a concordant score on the Pearson Test of English

                Note: TOEFL/IELTS options only for those who received their bachelors degree outside of the U.S.

  • Interested applicants can also attend an information session held by the Credential and Graduate Services Center. Check the "Attend an Information Session" of the SFSU Department of Special Education website. 

Admission Deadlines:

  • April 1 (Fall semester) (late applications may be accepted until August 1)
  • November1 (Spring semester)
