Master's Degree and Credential Options
SF State offers several program options:
California Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential in O&M
The California Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential in O&M is the basic program and qualifies one to work with children and adults of all ages, including those who have multiple disabilities and are from diverse cultural backgrounds. In addition to a basic O&M program, the program also provides additional curricula in O&M for students who have physical and health impairments, use of technology, and working with those who travel with guide dogs.
Master of Arts Degree in Special Education (Specialization in O&M)
The M.A. degree qualifies one to work with adults in California. It also qualifies one to work with both children and adults in other states throughout the U.S. The M.A. degree adds only one additional course to the Credential track described above. The M.A. degree also prepares students to interpret, evaluate, and design simple research projects for use in teaching situations.
Master's Degree Plus Credential Option
Students are welcome to enroll in one or both of the above options. The programs overlap significantly. Students enrolled in the credential option can complete course requirements for the master's degree by enrolling in only one additional course (3 units).
Full-time and Part-time Options:
Students can attend the O&M program on either a full- or part-time basis. Courses are held in the evenings and on weekends.
